Weather Update

Despite the best attempts of the weather all tennis coaching classes at Newlands will continue to run. If you are in any doubt about coaching at the club, please check the blog as it will be updated as and when required during the winter weather we are experiencing.

Saturday morning coaching

This Saturday marks the end of the block for the Saturday coaching. We will be having a fun day with some small treats for the kids at the end of the block. Thank you to all the kids for turning up in great numbers and to the parents for getting them there week after week. We will be looking at ways of restructuring the classes to allow the kids to develop and promote learning. I hope for your support when doing this. This will also be the last week for squash coaching in the afternoon.

Anna Brogan

Best of luck to Anna Brogan, who is currently in Florida, training for the prestigious 'Orange Bowl', which is the unofficial World Championships for U14's. Anna has a week of training, before beginning her challenge which is sure to be a extremely difficult tournament.

Anna has worked extremely hard over the last year and had a great summer, culminating in 2 terrific wins at a Grade 1 Tennis Europe event in Belgium followed by the U14 British Nationals. She has shown a terrific attitude in training both while at Newlands and now at Stirling. We wish her all the best from Newlands LTC!

Christmas Events

You should have seen the programme of Christmas events for the festive season. If you haven't then please e-mail me, michaelwelsh75@hotmail.com, and I will forward it to you.

It is always good when social events are busy so sign up on the sheets at reception, or call 632-1742 to put your name down. You can even e-mail reception@newlands.co.uk with your name and event you want to sign up for.

The Cardio Tennis and Quiz night has been a popular event in the past so get your team in early. Cardio tennis is a fun, fast, basket drills session to music where you are guaranteed a great workout whatever your standard and is on at 8pm til 9pm on courts 1 and 2, with the quiz following in the bar at 9.30pm. Get together with a team and sign up or just come along as we will can suggest who to team up with and who to avoid.

Our first adult event since the new indoor courts have opened should hopefully see all the courts being used by all standards of adult members. Get into the festive spirit by relaxing on a Saturday afternoon playing doubles for a couple of hours then enjoying some mulled wine and mince pies!! Format for the day will be a handicapped doubles event.

Touch tennis and pizza night is a Christmas night for all junior members (and parents/grandparents welcome too) who attended coaching at the club. It will allow families to come along for an informal tournament on a red court with drinks and pizza to follow in the bar. We would love to see as many parents and relatives come along to make this a fun night! Drinks will not be included but pizza will be ordered on the night so if you do plan to come let me know and I can have a rough idea of numbers. The £5 per head for pizza is just a rough estimate and is subject to terms and conditions!!!

The junior and senior rackethons are back on and again have been well supported in the past. Sign up early to avoid disappointment as places may be limited. The format is a playback draw with each individual match consisting of 4 short games at each event against the same opponent.

Finally the winter challenge events are for u8 and u9 players who want to compete against players from other clubs and is a perfect way for kids to start tournament play in a fun, fair and organised format. Players must have some match experience and a British tennis number obtained from www.lta.org.uk.

Please e-mail me on michaelwelsh75@hotmail.com if you have any questions regarding the above.
